Canines have a long history
in both police and military service. The dog’s unique natural abilities
and specific training make them an invaluable asset to all law
enforcement agencies. The Vero Beach Police Department currently uses 3
specially trained German Shepard dogs to work along side their handler.
Each of the officers and their partner attended over 400 hours of
specialized training in patrol work. The dogs receive additional
training for specialized disciplines such as drug or bomb detection.
All of the work dogs in Vero Beach are dual certified in patrol and
narcotics detection.
The Vero Beach Police
Department recognizes the benefits of a well-maintained K-9 unit and is
committed to providing the officers and their partners with the training
and equipment needed to provide this valuable service to our community.
We would like to thank those individuals who have made significant
contributions to our K-9 program. Special
Thanks
