Operations Bureau Commander
Captain Keith Touchberry |
The Operations Bureau is the largest bureau in the
police department and consists of two divisions, uniform patrol and
criminal investigations.
Members of the uniform division patrol geographic zones and respond to,
or initiate calls for service. They conduct preliminary investigations,
enforce traffic laws, and make arrests as necessary to protect and serve
the citizens of this community. The uniform patrol division contains
four patrol shifts that work in twelve-hour increments. A sergeant and
corporal supervise each shift. The uniform division also contains the
traffic, motor, marine, and K-9 units.
Members of the detective division conduct general crime and drug
investigations. General crimes include, but are not limited to,
homicide, sexual battery, kidnapping, burglary and theft. Drug
investigations relate to all crimes associated with the illegal
trafficking, sale, and possession of chemical and controlled substances.
Detectives primarily conduct follow-up investigations to solve cases
initially investigated by uniform officers. They obtain arrest and
search warrants, recover property and often work in conjunction with
other law enforcement agencies in cases that span multiple
jurisdictions. A lieutenant and sergeant provide leadership and
supervision to the division.
