2017 National Night Out

National Night Out is NEXT WEEK! Please join us on Tuesday, OCTOBER 3RD, from 5:30PM to 7:30PM, at Humiston Park, 3000 Ocean Drive, for this fun FREE family event where you get to meet and greet your local Police, Fire, EMS agencies, and many more! This is a fantastic opportunity to get to know our law enforcement, check out police vehicles and equipment, partake in kids' activities, enjoy music and FREE food!

Agencies represented include VBPD, IRCSO, Fire and EMS, FHP, FWC, US Army and Coast Guard, Humane Society, and many many more! Greet Police K-9's and watch them do a cool demonstration! Hop on the police motorcycle and snap a picture! Play games with U.S. Army soldiers or jump around in the bounce house. Try on SWAT gear and get your very own Junior Police Officer badge! Bring in your bicycle for a free bike safety check by a certified professional. Have the Chief of Police grill you a free hot dog and enjoy it under the palm trees overlooking the ocean! We have too many activities to list and they are all free for your enjoyment! Come join us and help us make this the best National Night Out ever!

Debris Cleanup Status 9/18/17

Hurricane Irma Debris Collection Progress in Vero Beach. This does NOT include debris cleanup outside of the Vero Beach City Limits.

Hurricane Irma debris collection began Monday morning at 9:00 am. The first crew started collection at the west city limit (north of SR 60) and is working east.

Three additional crews will begin collection Tuesday morning:
One will start at the west city limit (south of SR 60) and will work east; One will start at the north city limit (beachside) and work south; One will start at the south city limit (beachside) and work north.
​

All public streets will be collected first followed by private subdivisions.
We will post a collection map and update it each day.

COVB Recreation Update for 9/14/2017

​The following City of Vero Beach parks, beaches and recreation facilities are OPEN on Friday, September 15th:
 
  • Humiston Beach Park – beach will be guarded
  • South Beach Park – beach will be guarded
  • Jaycee Beach Park – NO LIFEGUARDS until further notice
  • Vero Beach Community Center
  • Leisure Square – facility open, POOL WILL OPEN Friday, September 15th at 7:00 a.m.
  • Centerstage Acrobatic Complex at Leisure Square – normal schedule
  • Riverside Racquet Complex – open for normal operating hours
  • Young Park
  • MacWilliam Park
  • Pocahontas Playground
 
Charles Park, Royal Palm Pointe, Troy Moody Park and Riverside Park North remain CLOSED until further notice.

COVB Solid Waste Division - Update #2

​Hurricane Irma debris collection of bulk piles is scheduled to start on Monday September 18, 2017. We will advise as to the collection route as soon as the number of crews is confirmed and will make two passes down each street.
 
Please place your debris adjacent to (not in) the road.
 
Be mindful to keep debris piles away from water meters, fire hydrants, electric transformers, storm drains, mail boxes, etc.
 
Place fencing, construction debris, electronics, and white goods in separate piles. Mixed piles will not be picked up.
 
The City will continue the regular schedule of vegetative debris pickup on Wednesdays for bagged, bundled and containerized material.

Press Release - COVB Recreation Dept.

​Leisure Square will open Wednesday, September 13th at 7:00 a.m.  for fitness center members and guests. The Leisure Square pool is closed until further notice.  Centerstage gymnastics classes will resume normal schedule Wednesday, September 13th.
 
The Vero Beach Community Center, Riverside Racquet Complex, Royal Palm Pointe and all City of Vero Beach parks, playgrounds and beaches will remain closed until further notice.
 
Residents that remain without power may utilize the showers at Leisure Square (3705 16th Street) Wednesday, September 13th.  Please call Leisure Square at 770-6500 for information.

Private entities that sell emergency commodities may be permitted to re-enter following the disaster, if local law enforcement deems it to be safe. Your employees and distributors wanting to re-enter into an impacted area will need government issue ID, Proof of employment, and a letter of authorization (distributors and service providers can use a bill of lading or a work order for this requirement).

The City of Vero Beach has resumed normal garbage collection on your regular scheduled days.  We will do normal yard debris pickup on Wednesday but only items bagged, bundled or containerized.  We will advise the pickup of hurricane debris as soon as possible.  Please be sure to place the debris at the roadside (not in the road).  Please be mindful not to place any debris on water meters, storm drains, fire hydrants, mail boxes or near phone/electric boxes.  It is important to keep yard trash separate from construction and demolition debris, fences, electronics, etc. 
 
Commercial businesses are back to their normal schedule pickups.

Multiple updates here tonight, first up is from the IRC EOC, followed by the Senior Resource Center (GoLine) Transportation.

The Indian River County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) would like to make you aware of the following:
  • The EOC will conduct the following scheduled media briefings:
    • Thursday, September 7 at 2:00 PM at the EOC briefing room.
    • Friday, September 8, at 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM at the EOC briefing room.
    • Saturday, September 9, at 8:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 8:00 PM at the EOC briefing room.
    • All media is encouraged and welcome to attend these briefings.
  • All City of Vero Beach Recreation facilities and activities/programs held at Leisure Square, the Vero Beach Community Center, Riverside Racquet Complex and the fountains at Royal Palm Pointe will be closed beginning Friday, September 8th until further notice. In addition, City beaches including Jaycee Beach, Humiston Beach and South Beach will be unguarded beginning Friday, September 8th until further notice. Please visit www.covb.org for updates.
  •  The Office of the Clerk to the Board and the Value Adjustment Board will be closed on Thursday, September 7, 2017 and Friday, September 8, 2017. The deadline to file a Petition with the Indian River County Value Adjustment Board has been extended to Wednesday, September 13th due to Hurricane Irma.
  • The Mental Health Collaborative will be closed on Thursday, September 7 and Friday, September 8. Executive Director Brett Hall will be on call should a community need arise.
  • The City of Sebastian will be open until noon on Friday, September 8. The Sebastian City Clerk's Office will be staffed until 4:30 PM on Friday for elections qualifications.
  • The Indian River County Property Appraiser's Office will be closed at noon on Thursday, September 7th, and all day Friday, September 8th.
  • Indian River County Traffic Operations is reducing the number of signal heads at all span wire intersection in preparation for Hurricane Irma. There will be only one signal head for each direction at most intersections, we are requesting that the public take extra care at these intersections.
  • Waste Management will continue normal garbage and recycling service until Saturday morning.
  • The following Indian River County Facilities will be closed beginning Friday:
    • Beaches
    • Parks
    • Shooting Range
    • Aquatic Centers
    • Libraries*
    • Intergenerational Center
    • Campgrounds
    • Sandridge Golf Course**
                    *The Brackett Library will also be closed on Thursday
                    **Sandridge will provide tee times until noon on Friday.

CLOSURE ANNOUNCEMENTS for SENIOR RESOURCE ASSOCIATION and INDIAN RIVER
TRANSIT due to HURRICANE IRMA
Due to the high potential threat of Hurricane Irma to Indian River County and because safety is of the utmost importance to our clients and staff, Senior Resource Association (SRA) and Indian River Transit will be operating on the following schedule:
  • Community Coach and GoLine Buses                                                                                             Normal operating hours on Thursday, September 7th and Friday, September 8th       ALL SERVICES WILL BE CLOSED ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 9TH                             Monday, September 11th schedule of operations is pending local conditions of roadways
  • Transportation Offices (4385 43rd Avenue, Vero Beach)                                                     OPEN Thursday, September 7th and Friday, September 8th under normal operating hours.
  • Adult Day Care (Vero Beach & Sebastian)                                                                                          Vero Beach & Sebastian locations will be CLOSED on Friday, September 8th      Monday, September 11th schedule of operations is pending local conditions.
  • Meals on Wheels / Nutrition                                                                                                                      Meal deliveries will be suspended beginning Thursday, September 7th. However, in preparedness for the impending storm ALL clients were provided with meals for the weekend. Deliveries may resume on Tuesday, September 12th pending local conditions.
  • Main Administration Offices (694 14th Street, Vero Beach)                                        CLOSED Friday, September 8th and will reopen Monday, September 11th pending local conditions.
As we value our employees and their families’ safety, as well as those we serve, the above closures are necessary. Please be safe during this time.
